At the English learning stage of Junior High School,a good command of English sentence structures is crucial in the learning,understanding and using of sentences for junior high school students.However,the instruction of five basic sentence structures has not been emphasized in the present junior high school English teaching.What's more,among all the five basic skills of English listening,speaking,reading,writing and translating,writing and Chinese-English translating need the utilization of language knowledge and language skills,which can better reflect students' language level and reveal their typical problems.Therefore,the author here adopts the perspective of writing and translating to investigate and analyze students' errors of five basic sentence structures.It is an irreversible fact that language transfer exists in the process of language learning.And positive transfer is beneficial to language learning,while negative transfer is doing the opposite.This thesis mainly lays its theoretical foundation on the transfer theory,as well as the theory of contrastive analysis and error analysis.And by analyzing the using of five basic sentence structures in students' writing and the errors of them in students' translating,the author comes to the following three conclusions:(1)The junior high school students in Grade Three prefer to use the sentence structures of SVO and SVC,and avoid the using of the other three sentence structures;(2)the error rates among the Grade-Three junior high school students,from low to high,are SVC,SVO,SV,SVOO,SVOC;(3)the sentence structures mostly influenced by negative transfer are SVOO and SVOC.According to the present teaching situation in junior high school and the conclusion of this investigation,the author puts forward some effective and feasible teaching strategies in order to improve students' ability of using the five basic sentence structures and decrease the impact of negative transfer.
