The main purpose of the senior English teaching is to make students master English knowledge and to cultivate high school students' English language ability.Pragmatics play a significant role in promoting students' comprehension of English language knowledge as well as academic performance.It requires high school English teachers to integrate their students' English pragmatic competence as a penetrating point into English teaching system to achieve the goals set by quality-oriented education.Whether and how to enhance high school English pragmatic competence would not only have significant impact on boasting high school students' English achievements,but have decisive influence on their language communication ability.Based on speech act theory,context theory and politeness principles,the paper adopted the method of questionnaire and researched the satisfaction and expectation of the existing pragmatic teaching from 60 teachers of all ages,professional ranks,teaching experience and 600 students in different grades in six high schools,and conducted separate interviews for some teachers with longer teaching experience,experienced and more popular with students,etc.The relevant information was combined,systematically researched and analyzed in the form of chart,only to find many problems existed in high school English teaching such as weak pragmatic consciousness,unreasonable pragmatic design,unitary teaching content,frequent pragmatic failure and unscientific pragmatic teaching mode.Consequently,students fail to communicate appropriately in real language contexts,it is difficult to for them to cope with daily life situation resulting in students' losing the interest in English for a long time.The paper proposes some coping strategies to strengthen teacher-students' pragmatic consciousness,optimizes design for English pragmatic teaching,creates contexts to push up their pragmatic ability.All these can be of practical value to solve the current problems and advance quality and efficiency for high school English pragmatic teaching,thus contributing to students' personal growth.
