| As part of Pragmatics, the Theory of Conversational Implicature has been the topic which attracts people'attention all the time. The Theory of Conversational Implicature explains the pragmatic and hidden meaning of utterance according to a certain context. In order to achieve the ultimate aim of utterance comprehension, we should identify the pragmatic meaning of utterance as well as its semantic meaning. In this way, we can fully master the law and features in conveying the intention of communication. To start with, the author gives a brief introduction of the recent research on the Theory of Conversational Implicature abroad and at home. Then, naturally the author introduces the Cooperative Principle. While explaining why the addresser breaks the Cooperative Principle on purpose ,the author mentions the Politeness Principle, the Relevance Theory as well as the Context Theory. Clearly, we can derive the conversational implicature if we try to find out the reason why the addresser breaks the Cooperative Principle on purpose in a certain context with the help of the Politeness Principle and the Relevance Theory. According to the features of the listening tests in the recent NMET, the author analyses how to get the right answers with the aid of the Theory of Conversational Implicature. Finally, an experiment is performed. With a contrast, we can sum up that the Theory of Coversational implicature is effective in improving students' listening comprehension. Therefore, it's practical and necessary to introduce the Theory of Coversational implicature to listening teaching in English class. As English teachers, we should remind our students of the Theory of Conversational Implicature, helping them to analyse the implied or hidden meaning of utterance. Only in this way, can our students' listening comprehension be promoted rapidly. |
