The New English Curriculum Standard puts forward higher requirements for the English reading teaching,nevertheless,there is still a gap between the current situation of senior high school English reading teaching and the new curriculum standard.In the teaching process,the ordinary teacher-centered teaching methods of English reading in high school still exist,which results the low effectiveness of the teaching's teaching and students' learning.In order to improve the effectiveness of teaching effect and students' reading autonomy,it is necessary for us to apply autonomous learning strategies to English reading teaching in senior high school.Based on the theory of constructivism and humanism,this paper attempts to combine the autonomous learning strategies with the teaching of English reading in senior high school in order to solve the above problems.Autonomous learning strategies mainly refer to the students who want to be an autonomous learner should master some learning strategies and use these strategies in the learning process effectively.The strategies embody as follows: stimulating students' motivation to improve the students' English reading interest and self-efficacy and instruct students to set their goals and plans;developing students' reading strategies(prediction,skimming,scanning,guessing the word meaning and getting the main idea);developing students' awareness of self-monitoring and self-evaluation.We believe that the application of these strategies can make students' English reading learning effectively.We carried out a teaching experiment among Senior One students in Huaibin senior high school for a semester.One class is the experimental class,which applied the autonomous learning strategies in the English reading teaching.The other one is control class,which was still taught in the ordinary approach.Before the experiment,the students were surveyed by the questionnaire,the interview and a pre-test.Then,the autonomous learning is applied in the experimental class.After a semester of experiment,a post-test was used to test the effectiveness of autonomous learning strategies in English reading teaching in Senior high school.The data are analyzed by the statistic software SPSS.After the experiment,we hold the view that the application of autonomous learning strategies in English reading teaching in senior high schools can stimulate students' English learning motivation,promote students' autonomous learning ability,so that the students can improve the learning strategies and methods with the purpose step by step,and constantly adjust the feedback,which can improve students' English reading comprehension and application ability effectively.
