Grammar plays an important role in senior high school English teaching,and it is the key to ensure efficient communication.However,the present grammar teaching either over-emphasizes the accuracy of grammatical use or the fluency of students'linguistic expression.Given the limitations of the above two teaching instructions,the thesis attempts to integrate the two instructions in order to improve students' grammar learning and use.Rod Ellis' Weak-interface Theory(1994)and Schmidt's Noticing Hypothesis(1990,1993,1995)are the theoretical foundations.Interface Theory mainly discusses the relationship between explicit knowledge and implicit knowledge.Rod Ellis'weak-interface theory holds that under given condition,explicit knowledge can be transferred into implicit knowledge.Schmidt's Noticing Hypothesis stresses that the awareness of grammatical structure is necessary for L2 learning.The thesis intends to answer the three questions:1)In what ways can the integrative grammar instruction improve students' grammar learning?2)In what ways can the integrative grammar instruction have a positive impact on students' interests,and confidence?3)In what ways can the integrative grammar instruction help students to internalize and output their grammatical knowledge?In the experiment,there are 100 participants from two classes of Grade two in Gai Zhou Senior High school.The experiment lasted for 16 weeks.The Experimental class adopted the integrative instruction,while the control class was taught by the explicit instruction.The research instrument contains questionnaire,pre-test and post-test,as well as interview.The experiment shows that students' mastery of grammar in the experimental class is much better than that in the control class.Besides,the integration of implicit and explicit instructions can arouse students' interests and enhance their confidence in grammar learning.What's more,in the process of learning,the integration of implicit and explicit instructions can make students efficiently internalize and actively output their knowledge.Therefore,the integrative instruction is feasible and efficient approach in helping students to learn grammar.
