Textbooks are the important basis of modern teaching in our country.However,textbooks of many versions have provoked an social uproar for their corrections and deletions of the original texts.Particularly,the PEP version textbooks have been shocking to many educators for their corrections and deletions which are far enough.This phenomenon has also brought itself to the attention of teachers and scholars in society.The research is about the corrections and deletions of classic works in Chinese textbooks from Grade 3 to 6 in the stage of compulsory primary school education,PEP.Comparing the revised texts with the original ones,differences are found and analysed,which shows the success and failure of the corrections and deletions.The success shows the editors' painstaking efforts to correct and delete informal words and expressions and confusing sentences which are against standard language and beyond understanding.However,with all the efforts,the revised texts are still not perfect.The essence of the original text is also affected by the corrections and deletions,making it less charming,accurate and rich than the original one.Based on the success and failure mentioned above,some suggestions are as follows.Attention should be paid to cautious deletions of the original text and the logic of its context to maintain its integrity instead of making it less authentic because of the editors' personal preference.Lastly,the author talks about some thoughts on the phenomenon of corrections and deletions of classic works in teaching practice.Every coin has two sides.With failure in corrections and deletions of classic works,success is also supposed to be recognized in teaching practice.By comparing revised texts and original texts,teachers are able to help students recognize the essence of the original text language,develop their interest in classic works,improve their reading and appreciation ability,broaden their after class reading,and increase their reading of original classic works.Students can also improve their understanding and reading experience by reading to understand the success and failure of the revised and original texts.
