Admittedly,learners' vocabulary determines their ability to use language.How to acquire and memorize those vocabulary within a short time still be a hot potato bothers them.Vocabulary of textbooks of primary schools relates vocabulary to daily life,so students can take them into mind easily and their performance have no obvious difference at their junior middle school stage.With the educational reform is developing in depth,the demand of vocabulary is increasing gradually,which further multiplies the difficulties of learning vocabulary,especially for the junior school students.At this stage,students pose the most strongest ability to imitate language training and accept new language information,teachers should fully utilize their potency and encourage them to divergent their thinking,then find out their own vocabulary memory strategies.Based on the Spreading Activation Model and the theories of Knowledge Visualization,aims at applying the mind map to English vocabulary teaching and learning,tries to find a better way of vocabulary teaching.There are two classes selected from Junior Middle School of Xi Yong as the research objects,they are class1 and class2,both of them are parallel classes.During the eleven-week teaching,the author has collected a large amount of relevant data and information by using the method of questionnaire investigation and interview to keep the accuracy of this experiment.Then the author carefully analyzes the questionnaire and tests by using SPSS 19.0 and Excel office software.The mind map helps students focus on self-learning strategies.To some extent,the mind map not only stimulates the students' interest in English learning but also improves their vocabulary learning abilities.
