Vocabulary is the foundation of English,and vocabulary teaching plays an important part in English teaching.However,vocabulary teaching is overlooked and is the vulnerable spot in junior middle school English teaching.There are prevalent problems in junior middle school vocabulary teaching,on the one hand,teachers don’t have efficient ways to teach vocabulary,and on the other hand,students are not active when it comes to vocabulary memorizing.Besides,students also lack of efficient ways to learn.Obviously,vocabulary learning problem has become a barrier in English learning.It is under this situation that the author wants to introduce a new way into English vocabulary teaching and learning by this paper so as to improve the learning efficiency.Mind Map is a kind of visual thinking tool that organizes and conveys information by using charts.Mind Map can strengthen learner’s memory by means of color,pictures,code and other ways.Lines in a Mind Map can connect different themes and the themes are usually in circles,boxes or other symbols.With the help of Mind Map,the seemingly boring information turns into vivid,colorful and logical pictures.By making full use of the left and right brain,Mind Map follows the memory rules and promotes the radiant thinking,which is helpful in developing human minds’ potential ability.Mind Map can help us to memory and retrieve knowledge better,which are needed in vocabulary learning.The author applied Mind Map into junior middle school English vocabulary teaching so as to find out the effectiveness of Mind Map when it used as a kind of teaching tool and learning strategy,besides,to find out whether it can be helpful in improving students’ vocabulary learning efficiency and learning interests.104 subjects were selected from two parallel classes of Grade one in Longhu Town No.1 Middle School of Xinzheng.The author used the methods of questionnaire,interview and test.The author has combined Mind Map with daily vocabulary teaching for 3 months in this research,after which the experiment shows that:(1)Mind Map can arouse students’ vocabulary learning interests;(2)Mind Map has positive effect on improving the vocabulary memory efficiency of junior middle school students;(3)Mind Map can help to promote English teaching and improve teaching efficiency.
