The Study On The Differences Between FLTRP And Hep About The Exercise Of Vocabulary And Grammar

English textbooks are the main resources English course.With the development of curriculum reforming,there are more and more English textbooks.In face of so many textbooks,it is an issue how to choose,use and evaluate an English textbook.What's more,in the language system,vocabulary and grammar are also very important.Grammar is a framework for language.Meanwhile,vocabulary is the construct materials for language.So it is particularly important to do a research on the vocabulary and grammar of an English textbook.This paper tries to analyze two sets of English textbooks.One is from Higher Education Press(HEP),the other is from Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press(FLTRP).By means of corpus study and content analysis,the paper tries to find out the differences between the two sets of books on the exercise of vocabulary designing and grammar.The research found that,firstly,the vocabulary amount in FLTRP is greater than that in HEP and it meets the syllabus demand.But the chunk amount in the two sets of books is similar.Secondly,the rate of the word repetition in HEP is greater than that in FLTRP.Thirdly,the two sets of textbooks put much more emphasis on the lexical meaning than the spelling and pronunciation.Fourthly,HEP embodies the deductive method,but FLTRP embodies the inductive method.Finally,FLTRP pays much more attention to the grammar form and meaning and the three aspects of grammar are imbalance.On the contrast,the three aspects of grammar in HEP are balanced.Through the comparative study,we find the advantages and disadvantages in two sets of books.We can find that FLTRP has richer vocabularies,which satisfies the syllabus standard.But the three aspects of grammar in HEP are balanced.So when teachers use the English textbooks,they can add or delete the teaching materials.
