With the new curriculum reform of geography textbooks, compared with the previous geography textbooks , a large number of charts and tables teaching activities have been added to the new geography textbooks. The goal of the new curriculum requires students to master the ability of using charts and tables to analysis and solve the geographical problems and to convert the geographical knowledge into the geographical charts and tables. In this background, the author takes the charts and tables teaching activities from high school geography textbook as the research object. On the basis of understanding the research status at home and abroad, this research mainly uses the literature, questionnaire and empirical research methods to study it.It is helpful to improve the students' ability of geography charts and tables , to promote the all-round development of students, to increase the vitality of the classroom, to promote the effective achievement of the teaching objectives, to improve the quality of the teacher and promote their professional development. In addition, the research highlights the perfect combination of the media and the activities, and guides the new teaching mode, which not only embodies the characteristics of geography, but also fits the new concept of curriculum.Firstly, this paper takes the compulsory textbook of Hunan Education Edition as an example, through the collation and analysis of charts and tables teaching activities , and defines the concept.According to the form, it is divided into eight types, and its characteristics are summarized from the following three aspects such as the various forms, the emphasis on the content of heavy and difficult, and the function presents the"three in one". This paper briefly explain the theoretical basis of implementation, including geography teaching theory, activity teaching theory and the new curriculum concept about high school geography. Secondly, through the questionnaire investigation of the implementation status of charts and tables teaching for In-service teachers,It mainly understands four aspects such as the basic geography teaching situation, the cognitive situation of it, the implementation process and the influencing factors and the feedback and reflection of teaching effect. After analysis, it is found that teachers are still under the influence of many factors, such as the traditional teaching concept and many factors in the process of teaching implementation. There are the phenomenons of the simplification of types and functions of implementation, the formalization of the charts and tables teaching activities, the poor teaching effect, lacking of the ability to interpret charts for students ,lacking of guidance in teaching evaluation and the formation of"learning style read hastily and without thinking". Again,in view of the existing problems and under the guidance of teaching theory and experience, the paper puts forward the strategy from the change of concept and the specific implementation according to the time sequence of the whole charts teaching activities. At the conceptual level, teachers should set up the correct concept of teaching from the two aspects, including the rational development and utilization of teaching textbook and the teaching concept of process interaction. On the concrete implementation level, the paper puts forward some suggestions from the three aspects namely the elaborately selection and optimization before implementation, application in practice and reflection and protection after implementation.Last, selecting the content of "Internal force and surface morphology"as an example, the research ideas and methods proposed in this paper are used to design and verify the feasibility and effectiveness in order to provide the reference for future research.
