English reading is very important for junior high school students.English reading can make students achieve a lot of English language knowledge and cultural knowledge.At the same time,English reading can promote the students' English language competence.So,how to improve students' English reading skills has become an urgent problem that English teacher should solve immediately.But in English reading class,the teacher tends to adopt the traditional reading teaching method.The teacher pays attention to the interpretation of vocabulary and grammar while students have little time to participate in the classroom activities.Therefore,the students' English learning interest cannot be aroused and their English reading ability cannot be improved.This paper suggests that the anchored instruction model should be introduced into English reading class.The model is based on Constructivism.When the new model is introduced into the English reading class,the teachers are required to create a real situation first,and they should put forward some real questions according to the content of the text as an “anchor”.Students can obtain the knowledge through autonomous learning and cooperative learning when they solve these questions in a given situation.The anchored instruction model can arouse students' learning interest and improve students' autonomous learning ability and cooperative ability.This paper shows that the anchored instruction model has a positive effect on Grade Eight students' English reading.The purpose of the paper is to answer the following questions.1.Is anchored instruction model helpful for teachers to improve students' motivation and reading interest?2.Is anchored instruction model helpful for teachers to create a cooperative learning environment to promote students' cooperative ability?3.Is anchored instruction model helpful for teachers to improve students' autonomous learning ability?This research lasts three months,the anchored instruction model is used in experiment class and the traditional English teaching method is used in the control class.The test data collected before and after the experiment in these two classes is entered into a computer and handled with SPSS.V13.0.Besides,the questionnaires and interviews are also adopted as the supplementary means of this research.The results show that the students' English test scores,learning interest and reading comprehension ability have been improved a lot after the experiment.Therefore,the anchored instruction model is effective in English reading teaching.
