English reading is one of the important parts for students to learn English,meanwhile,the College Entrance Examination also focuses on testing students' English-reading ability.Thus,how to improve students' English reading ability has become a primary research subject for English teachers.According to the study of second language acquisition,Note-taking Strategy plays a key role in English learning and reading.Note-taking strategy is one of the most important ways that students can use to improve their learning ability for second language as well as the communication skills.This article focuses on the fresh students from two classes in Linfen No.1 Experimental Middle School.The author carried on the Note-taking Strategy training in the Experimental Class.Through a comparative study between the Experimental Class students and Control Class students,the researcher made an evaluation of the experimental effect.During the experiment,the author has used the following techniques: questionnaire,test papers and interview.The quantitative data was analyzed by SPSS 17.0.This study mainly attempts to answer the following questions:1.Is there a significant difference between the Experimental Class with Note-taking Strategy guidance and the Control Class without Note-taking Strategy guidance in students' note-taking situations?2.Is there a significant difference in students' reading proficiency between the Experimental Class and Control Class after applying the Note-taking Strategy?The results showed that firstly,after a semester's note-taking strategy training in the Experimental Class,students' attitude about notes,the aims of notes,the patterns of their notes,the attention distribution when they are taking notes,the using of notes and teacher'sguidance on students' notes have all been improved.This result indicated that the Note-taking Strategy helps students manage a good way to taking notes and build a good habit to take notes.Secondly,the results indicated that there exists a significant difference in students' reading ability between the Experimental Class applying the Note-taking Strategy and the Control Class without applying the Note-taking Strategy.Therefore,we can conclude that taking notes during class,organizing and reviewing notes after class have a positive revelation to students' reading achievement.What is more,it can cultivate students' English reading strategies and skills,accelerate the reading speed,and improve the reading accuracy,which,to a large extent,can improve the reading achievements.Finally,the author put forward some suggestions such as “emphasizing the importance of notes”,“training students' habits of taking notes”,“guiding students some methods of taking notes”,“organizing and reviewing notes in time”,“checking and evaluating students' notes”,“paying attention to the preparation of the class”.The study has some limitations due to the fact that the lack of research time and the author's limited academic ability.There are many deficiencies that need to be studied continually in future teaching and research.
