Teaching material is the material product and the core of the curriculum.It plays an important role in transfer ofhumanknowledge and students' development.Teaching materialis an indispensable important factors in the teaching system which shoulders the task to mobilize the learning activities of students.In the current,the development level of teaching materials remains to be further improved in our country.Therefore,it is very important to analyseforeign excellent textbooks and learn from foreign experience.In this paper,the mainstream science material of American elementary school ?enlightenment of science ?and the domesticelementary school scienceof Qingdao version ?Science?are compared.It hopes to provide enlightenment for the reform of elementary school science textbooks in China.The thesis consists of five parts.The first part: problem raised.In the current situation,the mainstream science material of American elementary schooland the domestic elementary school sciencewere compared.It is hoped that this research can help the teachers engaged in the teaching,provide reference for the science educators,perfect the curriculum system of our country and offor some help to the textbook researchers.The second part: literature review.This paper summarizes the research status of science textbooks and primary school textbooks which clear the current research progress.According to the practice of domestic teaching material,the research idea of this paper was determined.The third part: research purpose,research task and research method.The fourth part,the fifth part,the fifth part: the main body of the research.A comparative of chemistry textbooks contents between China and the United States was studied.This paper makes a comparative study from three aspects: the choice of teaching materials,the organization of teaching materials and the presentation of teaching materials.The seventh part is based on the comparative study of the chemical part of the primary school science textbooks of China and the United States.The successful experience of American science textbook compilation and deficiencies in Chinese textbooks were found which can provide reference for the current new round of curriculum reform.We are looking forward to provide some help and reference to the textbook researchers.
