Writing plays an important role.The importance of writing is strongly emphasized in the New Curriculum Criterion for China's Middle School Writing Teaching,which makes higher demands on junior high school students for a comprehensive English competence.However,English writing is a very complex comprehensive skill.It is hard for students to master and apply it in a short time.In No.42 Middle School in Urumqi,the author found that the majority of students from grade seven in English writing are far from ideal.English writing is still the weakest skill in English teaching.To solve this problem,the author puts forward the method of Model Imitation Practice.This research based on the framework of Krashen's Input Hypothesis,Swain's Output Hypothesis,Behaviorist Learning Theory and the results of previous studies on the effects of the Model Imitation Practice.By reading different kinds of materials,students can master different reading skills.They learn how to grasp the discourse structure,content and the form of a passage.These can help students to get more sufficient materials for writing.After the imitate training,students should finish their composition by themselves in order to improve their language application ability.The study was implemented in the No.42 Junior Middle School in Urumqi.The object of study are two classes in Grade 7,a total of 83 students.The study lasted 12 weeks.This research explores the influences of Model Imitation Practice Based on Textbooks.It found that the method of Model Imitation Practice can enhance student's writing ability and most students hold a positive attitude to the Model Imitation Method.The results of the study confirm the importance of model text imitation,and also can provide some useful references to make further research in the English writing.Finally,the limitations of the present study are discussed and some suggestions for future research are also made.
