With the ceaseless progress and development in teaching method,teaching reading receives more and more attention.Comprehensive reading can improve students reading ability and accelerate the rate of reading.Therefore,more attention should be paid to the English reading teaching.The effect of traditional English teaching model is not very satisfactory,because in the teaching process teachers put emphasize on the words,sentences and grammar.So,the students cannot wholly understand the text.In order to improve the quality of English reading teaching,researchers should further study the models of English reading teaching.With the development of new curriculum reform,the overall understanding of the text becomes gradually vital.In this paper,author according to halliday and hasan's cohesion theory,try to apply lexical cohesion to the English reading teaching in high school and to build a reading model based on lexical cohesion.The writer discusses the application process of it in high school English reading combined with specific lesson.In order to verify that the teaching model based on lexical cohesion can improve senior high school students' reading ability effectively,the author designed and conducted a four-month teaching experiment.The subject of this study were Class 6and 7,year-2senior students of Senior High School in Urumqi.During the experiment,the control class was taught with the traditional reading teaching method,while in the experimental class the reading teaching method based on lexical cohesion was used.Results show that reading model based on lexical cohesion is feasible in the actual teaching and can effectively enhance students' English reading scores.Most of the students in experimental class were positive about lexical cohesion based reading model.And it can be used as a supplement of the traditional reading teaching methods.Based on these findings,we have attained the following pedagogical enlightenment:1?In the process of English reading teaching,teachers should emphasize the importance of lexical cohesion devices,lay stress on the improvement of lexical cohesion awareness.2?The whole reading teaching process should be guided by lexical cohesion.3 ?Teachers should pay attention to cultivate students' reading skills and strengthen reading training.
