Reading plays a significant role in English teaching and is also an important way for English learners to obtain information and improve reading ability.However,on the current situation of English reading teaching in senior high school,many teachers still use the traditional reading teaching method which focuses too much on the grammar,vocabulary and sentence structure and ignore the teaching of reading strategies and skills.Therefore,students' reading initiative and reading ability may be affected.As a visual tool of knowledge representation,mind map can help students to grasp the structure and understand the content of the article by using keywords,colors and diagram etc.Based on brain science theory and knowledge visualization theory,this paper tries to apply mind map to English reading teaching in senior high school to verify its effectiveness on stimulating students' reading interest and improving their reading ability.The research objects are 114 students in class 15 and class 16 grade 2 from a senior high school in Rizhao as the experimental class and the control class respectively.And the study uses the methods such as experiment,questionnaires and interviews etc to carry out the teaching experiment for one semester.Before the experiment,the author surveys the students' reading interest and reading ability in two classes by means of questionnaires and reading tests.Then the author applies mind map to English reading teaching in the experimental class.After the experiment,the author uses the same questionnaires to survey the students' reading interest in two classes.And the author also uses the interviews and another questionnaires to survey the application effect of mind map in the experimental class.Meanwhile,the author tests the students' reading comprehension ability in two classes.The experimental results show that:First,applying mind map to English reading teaching in senior high school can greatly enhance the students' English reading interest and improve their enthusiasm in reading class.Second,applying mind map to English reading teaching in senior high school caneffectively promote students' understanding of the content and structure and improve their English reading ability.
