English writing is an important item in senior high school entrance examination.Both the junior high school English teaching syllabus and the new course standard put forward higher requirements for writing.However,the middle school students have great trouble in English writing.Owing to that,scholars have launched a series of studies in teaching English writing from various perspectives,such as cooperative study approach and Scaffolding Theory.Meanwhile,formulaic language is a common but significant linguistic phenomenon.What is surprising,the practical researches which apply formulaic language to teaching English writing in junior high school are few.Based on Swain's output hypothesis,this thesis focuses on teaching English writing,which takes the students of Class 167 in Jinshi middle school as research objects,and the research is conducted to how to apply formulaic language to teaching English writing by document research method,experimental method and questionnaire survey.The research aims at solving the following problems: 1.What is the current situation of junior high school students' English writing? 2.How do teachers apply formulaic language to English writing teaching? 3.How is the teaching effect of applying formulaic language to English writing teaching?Before the practical teaching,the author conducted a writing test and found that there were some problems,including vocabulary,grammar and conjunctions,in students' compositions.Given that situation,the author carried out a practical study,the specific steps are as follows: 1.noting formulaic language before writing: Discuss the material in English writing,and cultivate the awareness of formulaic language;Extend writing material,and accumulate writing fodder;make up writing outline.2.Hypothesis-testing formulaic language during writing: test formulaic language of stable forms and collocations;test formulaic language of sentence builders;test formulaic language of conjunctions.3.Evaluating and introspecting formulaic language afterwriting: evaluate and introspect language in writing mostly from the perspective of fluency,accuracy and diversity.At last,post-test of writing and questionnaire survey are conducted to collect related data.The results show that under the guidance of output hypothesis,formulaic language writing teaching is good for improving students' English writing competence.In the aspect of language fluency,it is good for improving the degree of automation of English writing,and shortening the time of students' writing;in the accuracy of the language,teachers timely evaluate the composition and urge students to self-reflection,which is helpful to improve the accuracy of the language;in the diversity of the language,students can choose the best way to express from multiple languages expression,which increases the richness of language in English writing.
