English writing is an important component of English learning in senior high schools.As an important part of English writing teaching,teacher's written feedback mainly refers to teachers' written information on correcting compositions,in order to improve students' English writing proficiency.However,literature shows that there are relatively inadequate studies of teacher' written feedback on students' English writings in senior high schools in China.Therefore,it will be of great significance to explore the current situation of teachers' written feedback and its countermeasures.By adopting questionnaires and interview and also by analyzing the real corpus of 100 copies of teachers written feedback to students' English compositions,this study chooses 200 Grade One students and 20 English teachers from the No.1 Senior High School of Laishan in Yantai as participants,aiming to explore the current situation of English teachers' written feedback and its countermeasures.The main research questions include: What are the attitudes of teachers and students respectively towards the teacher's written feedback on students' English writings,including importance,level of satisfaction and expectations? And how do the teachers generally implement the written feedback,including components,focuses and manner? Through the investigation and analysis,the main findings are as follows:The majority of students and teachers are generally aware of the importance of teachers' written feedback,however,only half of the students are satisfied with the teachers' written feedback.There is a quite big gap between students' expectations and their teachers' implementation of written feedback.The components of teachers' written feedback mainly include score or grade,error correction and critical words,while there is a lack of encouraging words,suggestions on how to improve the writing proficiency and teachers' personal opinions about the contents of the composition.The major focuses of teachers' written feedback are on grammar,vocabulary and mechanic details such as spelling,largely ignoring the contents of the composition.As for the manner of written feedback,teachers can give written feedback to each of students' compositions.It might be implied that in order to solve the above-mentioned problems,English teachers in senior high schools should further enrich and diversify the components of their written feedback,pay more attention to the contents of students' compositions,try to give more motivating and personal suggestions,greatly stimulate students' passion for English writing and effectively help them improve their English writing skills.
