English writing is not only the output of the students' English application ability,but also one of the criteria that is used to evaluate English teaching effects.With the English education reformation processing,English teachers in junior middle schools now pay more attention to cultivate the student's ability of English writing.However,throughout the senior high school entrance examinations over the years,English writing is still found as the weakest of the students'language proficiency.So,both English teachers and researchers are looking for more effective teaching methods to improve students' English writing skills.Basing on the English curriculum standards and the current situation at school,how junior middle school English teachers use textbook creatively and choose supplement teaching materials wisely is one of the directions.In 1970's,the application of authentic materials in language teaching became popular with the appearance of Communicative Language Teaching,but the author noticed a scarcity of study on the application of authentic materials to the written English teaching in junior middle schools.Therefore,it is necessary to make an experimental study to test whether authentic materials way is practical and effective in junior middle schools English writing teaching and learning,which is also the purpose of this thesis.This study based on the Communicative Language Teaching,Krashen's Input Hypothesis,and Swain's Output Hypothesis and was combined with previous research achievements.Two parallel classes from Grade 7 at the Laibin Experimental School were chosen as study objects.One was the Experimental Group in whose writing classes authentic materials were utilized.The other was the Control Group,that the textbook was the only input.This paper adopted questionnaire and interview as study methods and tried to study these two questions:a.What significant impact does the application of authentic materials to the written English teaching have on junior middle school students' writing interest and motivation?b.What significant impacts does the application of authentic materials to the written English teaching have on junior middle school students' writing proficiency?Through collecting and analyzing data by SPSS and Microsoft Office Excel,the results revealed that after 24 weeks experiment,both the writing proficiency and the writing motivation of the Experimental Group were obviously improved while both groups' proficiency were almost the same before the experiment started.This verified that it was possible and effective to adopt authentic materials appropriately for the teaching of English writing in junior middle schools.
