With the rapid development of economic globalization,English has been spread and used all over the world.The construction of the Belt and Road Economic Circle in the new era has especially increased,the demand for foreign language talent in China.Therefore,the cultivation of such talents becomes an indispensable duty for foreign language teaching,especially for English teaching.It can be seen from current situation of English teaching in China,that despite Chinese people have been learning English for many years,only a few can truly use English fluently and apply it to real life.Most of them are using "dumb English" and "test English." The reason for this is that the textbooks which embody teaching English lack authentic materials,and the communication lacks real language environment.In this study,the widely used New Standard English textbooks were used as the object,and the authenticity of the textbooks was investigated through literature research and content analysis.The reasons for the lack of authenticity were analyzed,and corresponding inspirations were obtained.It will provide reference and assistance for preparing the future high school English textbooks.Thus,this study is divided into six parts and the specific contents are as follows:The part one is an introduction,which mainly clarifies the reasons for choosing the topic,and expounds the significance of the research from two dimensions of theory and practice.Then a comprehensively analysis is made on the research of textbooks on the authentic materials at home and abroad.The part two is the evaluation standard of authentic materials.First,it defines the definition of related concepts such as authenticity,materials,and authentic materials.On this basis,through the application of linguistics and pragmatics among other theories,we can obtain the dimensions of authentic materials,which are respectively: the authenticity of the materials,the authenticity of the target,the authenticity of the task/exercise and the authenticity of the communication,followed by an analysis on these four dimensions and the corresponding inspection criteria for each dimension.The part three is targeting at a research on the reading materials of the high school English textbooks.It examines authentic materials from the four dimensions of authenticity of the materials,authenticity of the target,authenticity of the task/exercise,and authenticity of the communication.The part four analyzes the factors that affect the authentic materials of the high school English textbooks.There are two main factors: the influence of the negative transfer of mother tongue thinking on materials selection and the influence of Chinese and foreign cultural differences on grammar and pragmatics.The part five depicts the suggestions preparing future English textbooks in China from the analysis of the authentic materials of English textbooks.First,the preparation of textbooks should choose the original foreign materials,especially the best classical foreign works.Second,the preparation of high school English textbooks should pay attention to the timeliness and accuracy of materials and be able to update information in a timely manner.Third,preparing materials for high school English textbooks should pay attention to the standards of the textbooks and those as the communicative materials.Fourth,the compilation of high school English textbooks should also focus on the authenticity of the materials from three perspectives: people who needing communication,things needing to be communicated,and the learners' interest in the outcome of communication.The conclusion part summarizes the full text from the aspects of the definition,investigation,influencing factors and suggestions of authentic materials,and at the same time,it points out the inadequacies of this study and the direction for future research.
