In the preface of Full-time Compulsory General High School English curriculum standards(2011),according to the nature of English curriculum,the main goals of English courses are to inspire students' interests in English,promote students to build up self-confidence,develop good English learning habits and grasp effective learning strategies.In the curriculum standards,there are nine levels of English language proficiency and the junior high school students should reach the third to the fifth level--it requires junior high students to help,cooperate with each others and solve problems together.Nowadays,group cooperative learning is a good way of learning English.It's a kind of teaching organization form of achieving objectives and developing students' abilities of cooperating with others.The essence of group cooperative learning is to improve learning efficiency,develop students' good learning habits and be volunteering to cooperate.NO.8 Middle School of Guilin is located in the urban-rural area.Most of the students come from the nearby areas.The number of good students is small and the majority of them have poor learning habits in English,especially in spoken English.In order to adapt the social development,deepen educational reform,improve students' academic performance,keep up with the changing structure of the students,and reduce the pressure of recruit,this school has taken actions to try a new round curriculum reform--applying group cooperative learning to Grade 2014.Now,the school has carried out group cooperative learning for one year.Compared with the traditional teaching methods,group cooperative learning has many advantages such as open teaching mode,harmonious class atmosphere and all-round developments of learners.Group cooperative is not a brand new model;not only China but also other countries have done lots of researches on it.It also formed a series of theories and methods to solve problems.However,during this year,the author found that the group cooperative method has many problems in practice.Many teachers and students lost interests in this method and some students' parents were strongly against this teaching method.In order to make the students improve themselves,and arouse the learning motivation,it is important to find effective ways to solve the problems.With the support and help of school leaders,the author did some surveys and interviews in Grade 2014 and found some effective ways to help teachers to make full use of group cooperative learning method.
