This research,which deals with the application of Phonics to English teaching in sports secondary school,aims to study the influence of Phonics on English teaching in the sports school.With the consideration of the present situation of English teaching in sports school and the author's teaching experience,the author suggests that the vocabulary teaching should be combined with the Phonics.The author has carried out a one-semester experimental study by selecting two parallel classes from Grade One of a sports secondary school.There are 30 participants in each class.During the experiment,the controlled group is taught in the traditional method while the experimental group is taught by phonics in a systematic way.Two classes are taught by the author herself.This experimental study adopts the methods of teaching experiment,questionnaire and test.The main research questions are: Can Phonics activate students' learning interest? Can Phonics help students improve their vocabulary competence? Can Phonics further strengthen the skills of grammar and reading?Based on the statistical analysis of experiment results,the author summarizes the main findings as follows: Phonics can activate students' learning interest;It slso helps students improve their vocabulary competence.However,Phonic can't strengthen the skills of reading and grammar.Lastly,the author lists some limitations of this research.According to these limitations and the teaching process,the author also provides some suggestions for further teaching in this field.
