Primary school is the starting phase of English learning,and the English education in primary school plays a vital role in pupils' future English learning and development.English learning difficulties are a universal phenomenon of the primary school education,which is hindering the progress of students' English learning achievements.The number of students in rural primary schools who have learning difficulties in English increases as their grade increases gradually.Therefore,how to transform those underachievers in primary school phase,and put them oriented direction to their further English learning and future development,have become an important project for English teachers.On the basis of what have mentioned above,this paper selects the students who have difficulties in English learning from the Fifth Grade to the Sixth Grade of YZ Primary School and the rural primary schools nearby and adopts questionnaire investigation method,the interview and observation to present those underachievers' learning condition,analyzing the subjective and objective causes for underachievers' learning difficulties.Subjective causes include improper learning methods,incorrect learning habits,etc.Objective causes include adverse effects from teachers and families,for example,ineffective teaching methods,bad relationship between teachers and students and unilateral concepts of home education.After a careful investigation and analysis,the author puts forward transforming strategies correspondingly from rural primary school students themselves,teachers and families.Firstly,teachers should adopt advanced teaching methods to increase teaching efficiency and motivate the students' confidence and their interest in English learning.Secondly,teachers should improve their own qualities including conception of education,teaching ability and scientific research ability.Thirdly,establishing harmony relationship between teachers and students is also an important factor for transforming underachievers in high grade at rural primary school.Meanwhile,the author suggests that parents cooperate with teachers to create a good learning environment and take appropriate methods to educate their children.The research findings show that only by paying close attention to the underachievers in high grade at rural primary schools and finding out their specific problems can we efficiently transform them and help them develop in an all round way.
