Reading plays an important role in English teaching in junior middle school.The cultivation of students' reading ability is a very important part in junior English teaching.The core goal of junior middle school English reading teaching is to make students develop scientific reading habits,use correct reading methods and skills,and improve their comprehensive reading ability,so as to lay a solid foundation for high school English learning.The New English Curriculum Standard(2011)emphasizes the focus of junior English reading teaching is to improve students' reading ability.Reading is an important way to understand English reading materials,expand language knowledge background and enlarge vocabulary,and finally achieve the goal of improving reading ability.This paper explores how to help junior middle school students establish English reading portfolio,as a supplementary way of English teacher reading teaching.It also encourages students to pay attention to their own learning process and their own progress,and aims at improving students' English reading ability as well as their reading interest.On the basis of a large number of domestic and foreign studies,this paper first explains the important definitions of reading ability,reading teaching and reading portfolio.Based on the theory of construction,humanism and input theory,this paper puts forward two hypotheses: first,whether reading portfolio works as a supplementary teaching way caneffectively improve students' English reading ability in junior middle school.Second,whether reading portfolio works as a supplementary teaching way can effectively improve students' English reading interest in junior middle school.In this study,60 junior high school Chinese awarding students from National Middle School of Saihan District in Hohhot were studied and divided into experimental class and control class.The experiment lasted a semester.The experimental class uses English reading portfolio as a supplementary way for teaching,and control classes still use reading,translating,and the traditional reading teaching methods.This paper uses questionnaires,English reading pre-post testing and interviews research tools to compare the changes of students' interest in English reading before and after using the reading portfolio.The data of test and questionnaire were analyzed by SPSS 22.The author gets some enlightenment through application research.The teacher can get timely feedback by means of the portfolio so as to use the proper teaching method.The teacher leads students to read and they gradually change the mode of teacher-centered teaching.Finally students' interest can be aroused in reading,and they can play the leading role in learning.But as for teachers,we also play a good supporting role.We need to communicate with students and exchange good ideas with each other.Let students do self-evaluation,mutual-evaluation,and be confident in reading.Students' interest is the best learning motivation that can help teachers improve students' learning ability and interest.
