Antonio Gramsci is one of the representatives of Western Marxism,the Selections from the Prison Notebooks is Gramsci's classic work.Based on his philosophy and political thought,combined with the current situation of education in Italy at that time,Gramsci comprehensively discussed his educational thought.The theoretical basis of Gramsci's educational thought mainly includes the praxis of monism,the active role of consciousness,absolute historicalism,cultural hegemony and organic intellectuals theory.On this basis,Gramsci discussed the purpose of education,principles of education,contents and methods of different study stages,teachers and students and other major educational thought.As to the purpose of education,he proposed that the political purpose of education is to obtain cultural hegemony by ideological education;As to the principles of education,he proposed to establish the concept of labor practice,to fulfill the education responsibilities of country;As to the contents of education,he proposed to carry out national and civic education,to carry out history and culture learning and to develop good habits,to focus on the connection between secondary school stage and the university stage,he also made a certain view on creative schools and vocational schools;As to teachers and students,he discussed the teacher's identity and function,and stressed the importance of establishing equal teacher-student relationship.Gramsci's educational thought has certain limitations,but it also has great rationality and creativity.It has important influence on sociology of education and certain inspiration for the development of education in our country.
