Total Physical Response is a relatively new teaching method,but also a very distinctive pedagogy,it was produced in the United States in the 1860s,initially mainly for immigrant children’s English education.Total Physical Response is inspired by the first language theory of children’s learning.Second language acquisition is achieved through the combination of instruction and action to achieve the learner’s understanding of the input.The learner naturally outputs the understanding based on the formation of language skills.This article is divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction,which explains the origin of the research,the research background,the research object,the research content and the research method.The second part is related to the theory and research summary,including the second language acquisition,the basic research of Total Physical Response and the application of Total Physical Response in English teaching and Chinese teaching,which provide the theoretical basis for this article.The third part is the concrete practice of Total Physical Response in Chinese teaching in primary and secondary schools.This article enumerates eight cases of systemic reaction method used in the teaching of Chinese interest classes at the Vidin School in Bulgaria.The advantages of using Total Physical Response in primary and middle school Chinese teaching are analyzed,and the problems are reflected.The fourth part is the reflection of teaching and related suggestions,including the reflection on the advantages and disadvantages of Total Physical Response itself and the teachers’ existent problems in the teaching process,and puts forward the targeted suggestions on these questions for the Chinese teachers,Total Physical Response is used for the differences among students of different ages and to predict the possible problems in teaching.The fifth part is the conclusion,summarizes the research content and puts forward the insufficiency of the research.This article will focus on the application of Total Physical Response in Chinese teaching at the Vidin School in Bulgaria,review and research the problems arising in practice,and put forward specific suggestions to provide a reference for teaching Chinese.
