Vocabulary teaching is an important part of the English teaching.And the vocabulary is the major problem that the second language learners have to face within the process of learning.Incidental vocabulary acquisition is one of the top issues in vocabulary teaching.Language learners can learn new words more or less incidentally while developing listenin speaking,reading and writing skills.With the growth of researches on the incidental vocabulary acquisition,many teachers and researchers explore the different English teaching approaches on incidental vocabulary acquisition.Today,the English songs are introduced and applied widely,and play an important role in English teaching.The application of English songs in language teaching has been taken into account.English songs can provide reliable,abundant and various language materials for language learners and spread the customs of the English-speaking countries.The application of English songs in teaching enriches the approaches of English teaching and optimizes the English class atmosphere.For the junior high school students who like music,the English songs can also enhance their interest in learning English.This thesis focus on the application of English songs in teaching and incidental vocabulary acquisition,firstly analyzes the previous research results,then applies the English songs in teaching within 40 students in my class for one term,including new class inducts,pronunciation practice,listening practice and grammar practice.This paper studies from an empirical perspective,collect and arrange related data,and then use the correlation analysis,partial correlation analysis and regression analysis through SPSS 13.0 software to observe the effects of applying English songs in English teaching on incidental vocabulary acquisition.The results show:(1)The junior middle school students are able to obtain the vocabulary incidentally through English songs that are applied in English class.(2)The vocabulary incidentally through English songs has more significant effect on the students with higher English proficiency than those with lower English proficiency.(3)There is a significant correlation among English proficiency,incidental vocabulary acquisition and English learning achievement.(4)The English proficiency produces significant effect on incidental vocabulary acquisition and learning achievement.(5)Incidental vocabulary acquisition produces significant effect on learning achievement.
