The basic education in our country has always been exam-oriented.Since English teaching started late,coupled with the large population of our country,the pressure of further studies and fierce competition,our primary education has to be linked to the exam results.Consequently,the force-fed and vast number of exercise paper teaching model is nationally applied,which eventually make students exhausted and resistant against English study,but the importance to students' psychological needs and overall development are inevitably ignored.Under existing stiff teaching model,most students may be strong in reading and writing,but very weak in listening and speaking skills,i.e.dumb English.Nevertheless,in recent years,more and more young teachers have been applying a new teaching model which transforms the boring simple linguistic English teaching into various vivid and fun game forms that successfully attract students interesting and attention to the language.The new model is named Game Teaching Model which enables to create a rich mutual language communication environment where the students are delighted to learn and use English while playing games.To improve students' learning efficiency,good teaching methods are vital.Game teaching not only can effectively motivate students' learning enthusiasm,but also develop students' learning interest,it is fundamental in English teaching of primary schools.The research objective is to introduce the RETAIN English teaching model into English class of rural primary school,develop a suitable framework that meets the specific needs of rural primary schools in China,conduct relative experiments in classroom through which,finally,verify the modoel's effectivenes.In this process,the strategies of the RETAIN English teaching model are fully analyze to provide some new ideas and methods for improving the effective teaching of English in rural areas.Based on this,this article will study and introduce the RETAIN English teaching model into English teaching in primary schools.There are six parts as follows:The first part is Introduction.It puts forward the background and significance of the research,the definition of the core concepts,the research status,the methods,the difficulties and innovations of English game teaching at domestic and overseas primary school.The second part is the Theoretical Basis,discusses the theoretical basis of the RETAIN model,and introduces the object and requirements of English teaching in primary schools.The third part is a case study of English game teaching based on RETAIN model.The author takes Beihan Primary School of Beihan Township,Renqiu City,Cangzhou City,Hebei Province as an example.Through the application of the RETAIN model in English classes,an intensive survey has been done by interview and questionnaire to the English teachers of Beihan school and others.Based on the survey,the current English teaching situation,the status and relative issues of application of game teaching in English classroom have been fully analyzed.The fourth part is the enlightenment of the English game teaching research based on RETAIN model.It puts forward the primary English teaching principles,teaching framework,and the design and implementation of English game teaching based on RETAIN.The last part is the conclusion,summarizing the full article,and pointing out the shortcomings of the study and the prospects for the future.On the ground of the study,much more beneficiaries have been shown by application of English game teaching based on RETAIN model in terms.·Of studentsInspiring students' interest in English learning,enhancing principal role of students,developing students' imagination and stabilizing English mindset in learning process;·Of teachersMotivating teacher's thinking on the systematization of the English teaching,improving teacher's English teaching capability,helping teachers to build up assessment models,shorten the evaluation process and develop self-directed learning guidance for students;·Of English classroomCreating an efficient and scientific English teaching environment,and renovation for more efficient and scientific English teaching model.In conclusion,the RETAIN model of English game teaching is able to efficiently and significantly improve primary school students' English learning capabilities in respect of developing interest in English,self-learning and English mindset building-up.
