Autonomous learning competence and self-efficacy are two important learner factors that affect learners' academic achievement. There are many empirical studies on autonomous learning competence and self-efficacy.However,there are only a few studies explored the relationship among students' autonomous learning competence,self-efficacy and English achievement, especially for the students in senior high school. Therefore, the present study is designed to explore the relationship among autonomous learning competence,self-efficacy and English achievement of senior high school students.Based on Holec's autonomous learning theory and Bandura's self-efficacy theory, the author adopts the method of quantitative research to explore autonomous learning competence and self-efficacy.The research questions are as follows:(1)Is there any correlation between senior high school students' autonomous learning competence and English achievement?(2)Is there any correlation between senior high school students' self-efficacy and English achievement?(3)What's the correlation between senior high school students' autonomous learning competence and self-efficacy?In this paper,120 students from the second grade of Gu'an Middle School in Hebei Province were selected as samples. The students were tested by using the autonomous learning competence questionnaire and the self-efficacy questionnaire. The questionnaires were analyzed by SPSS19.0 and the following conclusions were drawn:(1)The current situation of senior high school students' autonomous learning competence is at the middle level. There is no significant difference in English self-efficacy between male and female students.Students of different English proficiency are also different in the performance of autonomous learning competence. Those with highs have higher autonomous learning competence.Students with high scores in English have higher level of autonomous learning competence.High school students' autonomous learning competence is positively correlated with their English performance.(2)The current situation of senior high school students' self-efficacy is at the middle level.Competency self-efficacy is higher than behavioral self-efficacy,that is,they believe they have the ability to do,but due to various reasons,in the specific implementing process, they often lack of self-confidence.Students with high scores have a higher sense of self-efficacy.High school students' self-efficacy is positively correlated with their English learning performance. There is no significant difference in English self-efficacy between male and female students(3)Senior high school students' autonomous learning competence and self-efficacy have a relatively positive correlation with each other. The results of this study demonstrate that autonomous learning competence and self-efficacy both play an important role in English learning. So this study hopes to provide some suggestions for teachers and students. In the process of teaching, more attention should be paid to developing students' ability to learn independently, improve their English self-efficacy and helping students have a right attitude towards English learning.Only in this way,can their English achievement improved gradually.
