With the development of teaching reform,more and more teachers in secondary vocational colleges have realized the importance of English writing in language output and communication.However,due to the influence of the traditional teaching approaches,English writing teaching is not satisfying.This also causes the appearance of some phenomena among students such as the lack of writing interest and confidence,the deficiency of writing initiative,the misunderstanding of English writing and lower writing proficiency.Therefore,finding an effective way to change this situation is very important for the English teachers.This study intends to conduct an experiment on process approach and tries to find out whether it is an effective way to lead a better result of writing teaching.In the study,the researcher aims to answer the following two questions:(1)Can the process approach positively influence the students' attitudes towards English writing in secondary vocational colleges?(2)Can the approach improve the English writing proficiency of students in secondary vocational colleges? In order to answer the questions above,the author conducted the experiment in Shijiazhuang People's Medical College.Three research instruments were used,namely,questionnaire,interview,composition tests.Two parallel classes are chosen.One was the experimental class with process approach and the other was the control class with traditional product writing approach.The experiment lasted for six months.Through the analysis of the data,the major findings are as follows: After the experiment,students' writing attitude has been changed gradually and their writing interest,confidence,writing initiative and the understanding of the English writing have been strengthened.Both of the classes make a great progress in writing proficiency,but the experimental class gets a higher improvement.So,the process approach is more effective than the traditional approach in improving the writing proficiency of students.Teachers should take advantage of the merits of the approachwith the intention of achieving better teaching effect.At the same time,teachers should give effective guidance and training in the writing process.
