On the basis of a corpus of the National Matriculation English Test(NMET)listening subtest during 2006 and 2015,the present research, from the theory of discourse markers, conversational implicature, speech acts and politeness,is to figure out the characteristics of the pragmatic distribution of the conversations in NMET listening subtest by using both the qualitative and quantitative methods. In the thesis, different analysis charts are designed with reference to relevant studies in the literature review. The analysis charts include:discourse markers analysis chart, conversational implicature analysis chart, speech acts analysis chart and politeness analysis chart. Then, the charts are used separately to analyze the characteristics of different pragmatics information distributions in listening subtest. The research findings are as follows:1)The pragmatic information of the conversations in the National Matriculation English Test(NMET)listening subtest during 2006 and 2015 includes discourse markers, conversational implicature, speech act and politeness and so on.2)The characteristics of pragmatic distribution in NMET listening subtest are based mostly on the theory of speech act and discourse markers and so on.By statistically analyzing and generalizing, the research finds that the conversations take speech acts and discourse markers as its main distribution characteristics, but the pragmatic information in the distribution of the listening subtest is too simple and too concentrated. The present research helps to provide new ideas for the designing of English listening subtests, and provide suggestions for the combination of the theory of pragmatics with English listening teaching.
