English writing is one of the basic skills of foreign language study,which can reflect the overall English level of English learners.Besides,the English Curriculum Standard of Senior High School(2003)puts forward high requests for students' English writing ability.As things stand,on the one hand,many senior high school students have mastered a certain amount of vocabulary and grammar.However,their overall English writing level isn't very high.They tend to make mistakes in their writing,such as grammatical errors and improper use of words.On the other hand,teachers only pay attention to student's writing product and ignore the writing process.They seldom guide students to get a rich source of writing knowledge and to write,which causes students to become less interested in English writing and even become tired of English writing.To address those problems,it is of great importance to improve the teaching methods of English writing.Many experts and scholars have carried out many researches on these problems.This thesis attempts to explore how to apply the input and output theory to senior high school English writing teaching so as to improve the English writing ability of senior high school students.Based on Krashen's input hypothesis,Swain's output hypothesis and previous research,the author adopts a new English writing teaching approach that integrates reading with writing in order to improve students' writing ability and apply this new teaching approach to teaching practice.This teaching method consists of three phases.First of all,based on the input hypothesis,students are given a lot of language input.Secondly,a large number of language output activities are designed to stimulate students' writing enthusiasm.Last,students do writing to consolidate the effect of language input.This paper hopes to address two questions by improving the teaching of English writing in senior high school.First,what influence does the Integration of English Reading and Writing Teaching Method have on students' attitude and interest in English writing? Second,what is the influence of the Integration of English Reading and Writing Teaching Method on students' English writing ability?In order to demonstrate the feasibility of this writing teaching approach,the author conducted a four-month teaching experiment in two parallel classes of Grade Two from NO.1 Senior High School of Shangcai County.One is chosen randomly as the control class and the other as the experimental class.In the experimental class,the new English writing teaching approach is adopted,while the control class still employs the traditional teaching approach.The research instruments are questionnaires and writing tests.The data of the writing scores is analyzed by SPSS21.0.The author makes an objective analysis of the writing scores and data of the questionnaires.Compared to the control class,the scores of the students in the experimental class have improved a lot.Besides,they are becoming more interested in English writing.The research shows that the new teaching approach is effective and feasible,which can improve the students' writing ability,change students' attitude towards English writing and cultivate their interest in English writing.However,because the author's own theoretical level and the actual teaching level are limited,the experiment inevitably has some limitations.For example,the number of the subjects is not very large and the time spent on the experiment is short.Therefore,further study of the new English writing approach should be continued.
