Nowadays, the aging population is increasing dramatically, and the care needs of the elderly have drawn much attention from the academic community.According to the sixth census data of our country in 2010,the population aged 65 and above is 118.83 million, accounting for 8.9%of the total population,of which 34.46%are elderly widows.Since the high proportion of the widowed and the aging, the relationship between the marital status and ADLs of the elderly deserves academic attention and research. This article analyzed the current marital status of the elderly and summed up the definition of health with studying the relevant literature on the health of the elderly.Hypothesis of marriage protection, marriage choice model, marriage resource model and marriage crisis model are the theoretical basis of the study, exploring the impact of remarriage and other control factors on the daily self-care ability of the elderly. On the basis of previous studies, the author put forward three conjectures in this article:At first, remarriage has a significant positive impact on the daily living ability of the elderly;Secondly, the effect of remar:riage on the protection of the daily self-care ability of the elderly is affected by such factors as demography, socioeconomic status and health behaviors;Thirdly, the effect of remarriage on the health of the elderly has a longly effects. This article used the CLHLS longitudinal data from 2005 to 2014 with remarriage being viewed as marriage indicator and activities of daily living abilities as senile health indicator.Firstly, the sample characteristics of the control group(unremarried)and experimental group(remarried)of the matching database were descriptively analyzed, and the propensity score matching(PSM)model was established to match the remarried older and the unremarried. Then the effect of remarriage on the ability of daily living abilities of the elderly was analyzed by differences-in-difference(DID)model.The research reveals that:1.Re-marriage has an effect on the ADLs of the elderly.2.Demographic variables, socioeconomic status, and health behaviors affect older persons'ADLs and reduced the significant protective effect of remarriage.3..The effect of remarriage on the ADLs of the elderly disappeares significantly with time.On this basis, the author made the following discussiones:First, pay attention to the status and needs of the elderly remarriage;Secondly, pay attention to economic support in the elderly life and provide positive social support for the elderly in their later years, actively promote healthy aging, and create a warm and happy old age life for the elderly.
