Research On Application Of Guided Discovery Method In English Grammar Teaching At Junior High School

Grammar is an important part of language knowledge.Grammar can promote the development of English listening,speaking,reading and writing.However,in the actual teaching of English grammar,the current fashion of deductive method plays the dominant role in class.The teacher explains grammar rules and students passively receive them,which leads to the students' lack of interest in English grammar teaching and learning,and influences the efficiency of English grammar teaching and learning.To solve the problems,many researchers have done many researches.In this paper,a guided discovery is used in order to improve the efficiency of grammar teaching and learning.In the experiment,the guided discovery method is adopted in the experimental class,while deductive method is used by in the controlled class.The research questions are as follows:(1)Can guided discovery method improve students' interest in grammar learning?(2)Can guided discovery method promote students to master grammar knowledge?(3)Can guided discovery method improve students' grammatical ability?This experiment lasted for three months.The research subjects are 93 students of grade two from Beihai Junior Middle School of Weifang.One class is the experiment class,and the other class is the controlled class.The main experimental tools are questionnaires and tests.The questionnaires aim to test the changes for students' interest,and the tests intend to show the results of the grammar knowledge and the grammar ability before and after the experiment.SPSS 19.0.was employed to deal with the experiment data.The experimental results show that the guided discovery method is better than the deductive method in grammar teaching and learning at junior high school.Compared with the deductive method,the guided discovery method can better promote students' grammar knowledge,and improve the students' grammar ability.
