Cass Sunstein,the Harvard law school professor,puts forward the idea of information cocoons in his book Infotopia: How Many Minds Produce Knowledge.It refers to the fact that the public only pay attention to what they choose and the communication filed which delights them in information dissemination of network society.As time passes,it is just like living in a cocoon.The “information cocoon” of college students refers to informationalized parameterized vivosphere by individual college students or college students who have the same interests in the modern cyber circumstances.On the one hand,it meets the demand of college students' development.On the other hand,it impedes all-round development of college students.To analyze the problem of “information cocoon” of college students,the college students are the research object and the new media environment in colleges are the main research scope in this article based on multi-disciplinary theoretical knowledge of Marxist humanism,communication,psychology and methods of literature and case study.The previous researches mainly study "information cocoon" effect from the perspective of communication.We believed that ideological and political education in colleges,as the practical and educational activity to amend students' ideological belief,political views and ethics should explore effective measures to solve the problem of “information cocoon”.This article is divided into four parts.The first part is about the definition,characteristics,type analysis and theoretical basis of college students' “information cocoon”.Its characteristics mainly includes: closure,stationarity,homogenization,one-sidedness,balkanization,ethnicity,etc.Then we classify college students' “information cocoon” by perspectives from quantity and quality.From the perspective of quantity information cocoon is divided into the following kinds: information explosion type,information deficiency type and moderate information type.From the perspective of quality,it is divided into quality type and low quality type.The second part is about the main problems of college students' “information cocoon”.It mainly includes the interference on formation of mainstream ideology values,the group polarization and network violence in behavior,the mind-set in study weaken innovation ability?the media dependency in life etc.The third part is about the causes of college students' “information cocoon”.Internal cause is mainly limited personal knowledge,selectivity of attention,the differences of individual needs and group pressure of conformity.The external causes mainly include the influence of individualism under democratic environment improvement of network communication technology and market segementation,the differences among the college students' regional and national cultures and the lagging guide of network ideological and political education.The forth part is about the ways to deal with college students' “information cocoon” in three-class aspects by helping college students to understand,come out and break through the cocoon “information room” to realize comprehensive and healthy development of college students.
