Writing requests learners to have a high level of language.If learners want to write excellent writings,they must possess the abilities of logical thinking and layout.Although the English Curriculum Standard for Senior High School(2017)has stressed the importance of writing,teachers always focused on the teaching of vocabulary and reading,and neglected the teaching of writing.From the students' English compositions,it can be seen that they use a lot of simple sentences and rarely involve difficult grammatical knowledge.One of the important reasons for this,apart from their knowledge of English and practical ability,is that students intentionally or unintentionally adopt avoidance strategies.Avoidance not only exists in the students' learning process,but also can be seen in various examinations.Some students even regard it as a test-taking strategy for pursuing high marks,especially in writing tests.This has greatly affected the improvement of their writing proficiency.Therefore,this study have collected English compositions of two classes(130students in total)of students of grade 2 in Lvliang Senior High School,and conducted a questionnaire survey and an interview with eight of the students.Furthermore,this study focuses on the reasons why senior high school students produce language avoidance in the course of writing English writing,with a view of enlightenment on writing teaching.Through the data analysis,the results are obtained as follows:1.The avoidance in students' English writing is embodied in the following three aspects.First,the avoidance in terms of vocabulary.Students often like using active vocabulary,and avoid using the passive vocabulary.Second,the avoidance in terms of grammar.Students often write simple sentences and avoid using the complex grammar in the composition.Finally in the composition,the students' express is not accurate and lacks of excellent sentences,which makes their essays incoherent.2.There are many reasons for avoidance in English writing,including the students themselves,teachers and other factors.At the same time,this study analyzes thedifferences between Chinese and Western cultures,and hopes students can accurately understand the avoidance.The results of this study have some guiding significances for the writing teaching of high school English students.In order to improve students' writing skills,teachers should help students solve their problems that are about the avoidance in writing.In addition,in daily teaching,teachers should help students increase the input and output of language knowledge,at the same time,try to change the composition score method,and help students solve problems to improve their English level.
