Writing is an inseparable and significant part among the four basic English skills and can reflect students’ comprehensive language level.Besides,it is clearly required in the New English Curriculum Standards.Thus how to improve students’ English writing ability is widely discussed.In this research,the author focused on the application of Mind Mapping in senior high school English writing teaching.By doing the experiment,the author aims to testify the influence of Mind Mapping on senior high school English writing teaching.The two research questions are as follows:(1)Can the English writing teaching instructed by the Mind Mapping improve students’ English writing ability? and if it can,in which aspects?(2)Is the English writing teaching instructed by the Mind Mapping more effective than the English writing teaching instructed by the traditional English writing teaching method in improving senior high school students’ writing ability?Two parallel classes from RuiJin No.1 middle school in senior grade two were chosen to participate in the experiment.In the controlled class,traditional English writing teaching method was adopted in the teaching process.And in the experimental class,Mind Mapping was used to instruct the writing teaching.After 16 weeks of experiment,the data was analyzed with SPSS 21.0,and the conclusions were as follows: firstly,students’ English writing competence has great improvement with the aid of Mind Mapping,especially in students’ ability of using conjunction and transitional words.Secondly,compared with the traditional writing teaching method,the students instructed by the Mind Mapping have greater improvement in English writing competence.The research proved that Mind Mapping is an effective method to improve senior high school students’ English writing ability.And available instructions for senior high school English teaching can be presented in two aspects.1.Mind Mapping is a good assistance in English writing teaching.Therefore,there can be a wider use of Mind Mapping in the future English writing teaching.2.In the future English writing teaching,teachers shall correct students’ view of paying too much attention to the grammatical mistakes and mis-spelling behavior in English writing.And encourage them to use Mind Mapping to form a good habit of writing to improve their English writing ability.
