Museum is a public cultural organization devoted to social development,and it represents the benefit of the entire public.Visitor service is not only an organizational target but also an important duty of the museum work,while directly reflecting the core value of the museum work.As the public museums around China began to be free to public in March 2008,more and more visitors of different classes went into the museums,which urging more and more museums to start to pay attention to the “visitor service”as the core function,and actively pursue social benefits.It has been eight years since the free entry policy was implemented,and the museums in Mainland China have made obvious progress in both service level and managing ability.But,problems still exist.Both the service philosophy and the management of the museums are far below the expectation of the public.The Mainland study on the museum visitor-service is still in a primary stage.It has achieved many theories,but has made less analysis in professional work,so it is weak in practical operation.On the basis of the practical investigation and analysis,this paper is attempting to sort out the problems exist in the visitor-service at home,and give some suggestions after referring to the latest cutting-edge theories and the constructive approaches done by the museums at home and abroad,and longing for the generous direction from experts.The preface introduces the background and the meaning of this study,the relevant research at home and abroad,and the contents and the study methods of this paper.The first chapter defines the concepts such as museum,museum visitor service,etc,and explains the public product theory and the new public service theory.The second chapter describes the present situation of the visitor-service in domestic museums,summarizes the problems existing: visit quality declined,exhibition quality is uneven,service ability is relatively weak,service only in single form.;then,analyzes the causes of the problems: lag of service concept,congenitally deficiency in reception conditions,low ability in comprehensive management,and unpefect financial support mechanism.In the third chapter,by referring to the experience of both domestic and international museums,this paper explores the countermeasures through the following five aspects: change the service concept,complete the service link,improve the comprehensive managing ability,establish diversified fund-raising mechanism,and set up a evaluating system for service equality,for the development of the museum visitor service under the conditions of free-to-public.
