As production technology and industry chain developed,new technology fused,LCD has become a best-selling product in the flat panel display area because of its low power consumption,high resolution,good color performance and cost performance.As economic development accelerates,people prompts higher requirements to display device.Wide gamut,high resolution and low power consumption display has attracted more and more people.Moreover,the development of mobile device also prompts many new requirements.Because of the high contrast and low power consumption characteristics,the local-dimming technology become a hot spot.This paper researches the basic principles and implementation scheme of the local-dimming technology first.Advantages and disadvantages of many traditional local-dimming technology are compared emphatically,too.On this basis,this paper presents an improved local-dimming method.A self-adaption local-dimming algorithm based on image histogram.This method extracts the main luminance information from the image histogram and its statistical information,and adjust the backlight by difference of adjacent frame.This method achieves a better effect of power saving,guarantee display homogeneity,maintain the high contrast of traditional principles and achieve a better display effect.This paper simulates this method on MATLAB and accomplish hardware design,module division,implementation and verification.The simulation and comparison between this method and traditional local-dimming method shows the superiority of this method.This paper also accomplishes a hardware design.This method is divided into many modules,and each module is expressed by verilog HDL to achieve specific effect.Finally,we simulate this project on vivado and modelsim and verify the achievement of design.
