Innovation as a source is an inexhaustible power for state development, and hence the competition among countries is essentially a war of innovation ability. The state key laboratory, as important components of the national system of science and technology innovation, are significant force to improve the whole country's innovation capacity. Government bases on it so that high-level R&D, which consists of basic research and applied research, can be well arranged; elite scientists can be collected or cultivated; and top-level academic communication can be conducted. Given that the status of collaborative innovation as a key element will influence the innovation ability of the state key laboratory, this paper has attached much importance to research on collaborative innovation in the state key laboratory.As a state key laboratory, the Digitally Manufacturing Equipment and Technology Laboratory(DMETL) in Huazhong University of Science and Technology, has concentrated on collaborative innovation following the nation strategy, demand of major industries and the development trend of manufacturing collaborative innovation, which has helped itself establishing an orientation of applied and basic research. The laboratory emphasizes the close cooperation with enterprises, campus departments, other colleges and universities, research institutes, government agencies, and exploits various channels to build collaborative innovation platform, through which it has realized resource sharing and joint technology and improved the overall level of collaborative innovation. In accordance with the operation of the mechanism of "open, flow, joint, competition", and adhering to the construction principle of "three high levels, one top level and two points", it has a improved implementation plan and a great project organization structure in collaborative innovation.This paper, after a review of related literatures, using questionnaire method combined with semi-structural interviews, respectively requires research support staff(students), formal research personnel and management personnel in the DMETL. Through conducting descriptive statistics and correlation analysis with SPSS, this research shows the collaborative innovation status of the DMETL, finds the influence factors, and finally puts forward some targeted practical and effective advice. The advice is devised to provide an important reference framework for the DMETL when it conducts collaborative innovation practice hereafter, and it will be more encouraging if these suggestions can also enlighten the same practice in foreigner countries.
