An Empirical Study In The Impact Of Urbanization On Technological Innovation

Urbanization is an important part of the modernization process,is the trend of human society development.No country can avoid urbanization.Urbanization is a significant driving force not only for economic development,but also for technological advances.In China,it's a crucial development strategy to enhance the level of economic development and achieve the goal of a moderately prosperous society.Currently,China is in the period of economic and institutional transformation,where institutional revolution promotes urban development.Our urbanization has attracted the world's attention,and must have significant impacts on economy and technological advances in our country and even the world.Urbanization is not only a simple transfer of population,but also a diverse and complex historical change.Technological advances accompany urbanization.Urbanization promotes technological innovation mainly from two aspects.On the one hand,innovation is stimulated by human capital caused by transfer of population,training for professional skill promotion,smooth channels of information dissemination plus a favorable environment for innovation.On the other hand,the diffusion and transformation of innovative achievements are facilitated because the short distance among innovative bodies in cities,is conducive to communication and cooperation as well as technological achievements.Urbanization makes industries and innovation bodies agglomerate in cities,which shortens the second conversion cycle of the achievements.Romer doesn't believe human capital in the growth function means only labors,but should include education levels and skills.In the urbanization process,farmers change into workers and improve job skills,which indirectly achieves human capital accumulation.In the production function,enhanced human capital leads to increase in its marginal effect,because technological progress rate has improved,thereby creating the new economic growth theory.Based on the theory and its production function,this paper constructs a production function including the urbanization rate and the level of technological progress.The main contents are as follows.First,theoretical analysis.Combined with research achievements at home and abroad,this paper sketches out urbanization and technological innovation theoretically and clarifies their connotations,selects indicators and analyzes the status of urbanization and technological innovation in our country and all regions.This paper tests correlation,causality and co-integration relationship of urbanization and technological innovation,and analyzes the impact of urbanization on technological innovation from the qualitative perspective.Secondly,empirical analysis.This paper mainly chooses the indicators on behalf of urbanization and inputs and outputs of technological progress.According to the production function and data of 30 provinces,municipalities or autonomous regions,this paper constructs a model using panel data by Eviews.By comparative analysis of the nation and all regions,this paper concludes the quantitative impact of urbanization on technological innovation input factors.According to the results of empirical analysis and the status of national and regional urbanization and technological innovation,this paper proposes rational suggestions,and provides strategies and solutions to promote subsequent urbanization construction.
