The printed circuit board(PCB) industry which CS Company is in is a typical “make-to-order” industry, in which generally customers have strict limits on their order quantity and do not allow over shipment or short shipment of order. This means PCB companies need to well control their sales order quantity, which takes stable quality control as premise. In order to accommodate to the increase in product diversity, CS Company adopts the production mode of high mix and low volume, which means multiple production mix on production line and different production batches for the same production part and requires more frequent conversion of production tasks. This may lead to an increase in human-caused quality issues and a poor assurance of product quality. In order to minimize the quality defects caused by human operation errors, it is necessary to conduct a systematic research on the root cause of human-caused quality issues. This paper, by taking the research method of theoretical analysis and case analysis, and by reviewing domestic and foreign literature about analysis of human error, introduces the concept system of root cause analysis method of human error and the features of human-caused quality issues of PCB industry, and demonstrates the necessity and feasibility of applying root cause analysis method of human error in prevention of human-caused quality issues in PCB industry. This paper, with CS Company as an example, also discusses the specific implementation, implementation effect and existing disadvantages of root cause analysis method of human error.
