The Effects Of Intellectual Capital On Performance Of Commercial Banks

The banking industry faces challenges of accelerating technology and knowledge update along with the coming of Knowledge Economy and Internet Era. The article attempts to find the correlation between operating performance and intellectual capital of commercial banks, explore the effects of intellectual capital on operating performance, based on overviewing and combing relevant research both home and abroad. From the characteristics of intellectual capital and economic rents theory point of view, the article uses A shares listed commercial banks as research samples, apply panel data to develop a static regression model and adopt the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method to empirically analyze the impact of intellectual capital and its elements on operating performance. The paper is consisted of 5 chapters, followed by prolegomenon, existing relevant research overview, analysis of theoretical mechanism of intellectual capital to operating performance of commercial banks, empirical research on the two of them, conclusions and recommendations.Chapter 1 is the prolegomenon where background, purpose and significance of this article are discoursed, as well as the research mentality and the frame, possible innovation and deficiency. Chapter 2 is the relevant literature overview which combs and comments the relevant literature and accordingly put forward the areas needing further research and possible innovation of this article. Chapter 3 is the theoretical mechanism of intellectual capital to operating performance of commercial banks, which aims to explain the impact in theory. Chapter 4 is the most important empirical analysis which provides data support for this article. This chapter uses Fixed Effect Model and OLS method to do regression analysis and empirically study the impact of intellectual capital on operating performance of commercial banks. Chapter 5 is the last part of this article which summing up the conclusions of the empirical analysis and putting forward some brief suggestions and references.Through the empirical study of this paper, an ultimate conclusion can be drawed as following:Intellectual capital can drive operating performance of commercial banks and have the statistically significant, which is basically consistent with this paper's theoretical mechanism and pervious study.
