Research On The Impact Of Intellectual Capital For China's Commercial Banks' Performance

In the age of knowledge-economy,intellectual capital has been an indispensable element of enterprise.Intellectual capital contains many elements,such as knowledge,technology,information and capacity etc.The use of intellectual capital is the ability to synthesize material capital,playing an important role in improving the overall performance of the enterprises.As the core of finance,commercial banks occupy a very important position in the national economy.In recent years,a large number of foreign banks have entered our country,and our commercial banks face more complex and intense competition.The international competition and the economic downturn have made banking reform more urgent.In addition,the interest rate liberalization reform in our country has entered the final stage.The liberalization of interest rate makes the banks cannot rely on the spread of deposits and loans,but must develop and strengthen the intermediary business.As a result,the more stringent requirements for banks' innovation and management are put forward.As well as the commercial banks are knowledge-intensive enterprises,the intellectual capital has important significance to improve performance of commercial banks.So this dissertation studies the role of intellectual capital in different commercial banks.This dissertation selects the 24 listed commercial banks in China as an sample,using the data from 2008 to 2016.Then we used method of value added of intellectual capital(VAIC)to measure the level of intellectual capital of commercial banks as the explanatory variables,using factor analysis method to measure the performance of commercial banks as the explained variable,and then using multivariate regression model of panel data to do the regression.The results show that intellectual capital and its constituent elements have a significant role in promoting the performance of commercial banks,including physical capital promotes greater than the promoting effect of intellectual capital.The result of different banks' regression showed that the intellectual capital of different banks have different influence on their performance.The state-owned commercial banks' intellectual capital has the largest impact on its performance;the joint-stock banks' impact is less,and city commercial banks' is minimal.The policy and suggestions are proposed based on the research conclusion in the end.This dissertation has important guiding significance for the intellectual capital investment and banking management,as well as improving the comprehensive performance of commercial Banks.In the same time,it can provide reference suggestions for different bank to improve the efficiency of intellectual capital management.The banks can improve the performance and competitiveness by targeting the intellectual capital that contributes to performance more.
