As a significant part of our national economy, small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs) have been playing an irreplaceable role in the development of domestic socio-economy. SMEs cannot only continuously satisfy the various growing needs or the people but also can serve as a great engine for boosting the development of the national economy. Meanwhile as important market participants they are playing indispensible roles in boosting market activities, increase jobs and maintain social stability. However after China's entry into the WTO, SMEs are confronted with both domestic and international pressures in terms of competitions. As a result there have been promotions for enterprise transformation and upgrading early in China in order for SMEs to better accommodate to the modern market economy. Facing serious obstacles the governments of different levels have been formulate policy support for SME transformation and upgrading and at the same time scholars have been focusing on the transformation and upgrading subjects for SME transformation and upgrading. As part of SMEs small and medium-sized chemical enterprises have become a indispensable part of the development of socio-economy however the short lift cycle, lack of strategic management etc. seriously impede the sustainable development of such enterprises. This thesis takes how chemical SMEs can break through the operation bottle-neck to realize transformation and upgrading as its subject. Some of the features of SMEs are the survival elements for them and at the same time become obstacles for their further development. Confronted with the narrowing development ways, it has become a serious subject to find out ways or strategies for SMEs to realize transformation and upgrading. This thesis employs relevant theories on SME transformation and upgrading and based on L Company to discuss the internal and external issue in the development of SMEs and how these issues affect the transformation and upgrading of such enterprises. Based on the analyses, the thesis comes out with suggested strategies for the transformation and upgrading of L Company and it is hoped that these strategies can be of help to the same or similar enterprises which are planning to carry out transformation and upgrading.
