As an important part of container terminal, the yard has been the focus of the port researches. The rationality of the yard management directly affects the efficiency and the production cost of the container terminal. In recent years, for some container terminals, the growth rate of traffic demands is far greater than that of yard construction has already become a problem that can not be ignored, and this problem will last for quite a long time.It means that it will be a normal condition for the container yard to operate at full load,or even overload. In order to solve this problem,it is the only way to improve the utilization rate of the storage yard by optimizing the method of yard planning or re-engineering the operating process, which is based on the current relatively limited space resources and existing equipment resources. This thesis introduces the yard management of Guangzhou South China oceangate container terminal and other correlative manufacturing segments and their management then put forward the optimization measures for them. When making the export planning,in order to reduce the route clash and decrease the cost, the planner should consider the different transportation which export containers enter the yard, and the present working condition of all the equipments. When making the planning for the transshipment containers between domestic ports, planner should analyze the historical data and use other ways to better organize plan by well categorized data, especially the characteristic of consignee and delivery condition data,to reduce the relocation. In addition, this paper introduces the process of picking up heavy or empty containers and refrigerated container inspection, then put forward the improving measures.
