Based on different materials used in fittings of photographs archives and the number of their diseases at diverse severity degrees, this paper emphasizes on the materials of boxed with black and white photographs. It is compared and analyzed in terms of color changes, surface glossiness, infrared spectra and Raman spectrum between before and after moist-heat, dry-heat, UV aging process and samples surrounded by SO2 and HCl sample to evaluate the influence of plastic sheets and carbon paper materials of black and white photographs. The main contents are as followed:1. Introduction of black and white photographs and their diseases and why they occurred, which also illustrated the internal and external factors as well as preventive measures.2. Comparing the properties with plastic paper and carbon paper3. The color comparison and analysis of simulated samples sealed by different materials through moist-heat, dry-heat, UV aging process and samples surrounded by SO2 and HCl for 72 and 144 hours before and after conservation.4. The morphology analysis of simulated samples sealed by different materials through moist-heat, dry-heat, UV aging process and samples surrounded by SO2 and HCl for 72 and 144 hours before and after conservation.5. The surface gloss analysis of simulated samples sealed by different materials through moist-heat, dry-heat, UV aging process and samples surrounded by SO2 and HCl for 144 hours before and after conservation.6. The infrared spectrum analysis of simulated samples sealed by different materials through moist-heat, dry-heat, UV aging process and samples surrounded by SO2 and HC1 for 144 hours before and after conservation.7. The Raman spectra analysis of simulated samples sealed by different materials through moist-heat, dry-heat, UV aging process and samples surrounded by SO2 and HCl for 144 hours before and after conservation. The conclusions are obtained as follow:1. The color changes, surface materials composition and glossiness of the black and white photographs are influenced by high temperature and high humidity environment, high temperature and low humidity environment, UV environment.2, By comparing of chromatic aberration, samples morphology, glossiness, surface material composition, the untreated samples changed apparently through aging process, but the treated by plastic paper and carbon paper changed small relatively which illustrates that plastic paper and carbon paper will protect the black and white photographs in temperature and humidity at different levels as well as UV. From the color changes, surface morphology, glossiness, infrared spectrum and Raman spectrum analysis, we can sure the protective effect of carbon paper perform better than plastic paper, the former is a suitable for the production of black and white photographs preservation material articles.
