The characteristics of China's energy is "more coal, less oil and gas". Acid rain mostly belongs to sulfuric acid rain in China, sulfuric acid rain is the main type of acid rain, thus sulfur dioxide emissions from coal-fired generation is the main reason for the formation of acid rain.Today China is one of the world's largest consumer of coal, gas desulfurization of coal-fired thermal power plant has become the most important issue of environmental governance, the total situation is particularly grim.Shanxi Xinghua Chemical Company owns new 4×160 t/h coal-fired boilers, using 0.5% sulfur design coal. About 7,600 tons SO2 gas per year will be discharged into the atmosphere, causing serious pollution to the perimeter of the environment. SO2 can be effectively recycled to available resources to improve the perimeter of the environment, and a good environment quality can be created for communities and enterprises.In this paper, all possible technology applicated for flue gas desulfurization plant of Xinghua new 4×160t/h coal-fired boilers were discussed, thus the advantages and disadvantages of each method for common method of desulfurization technical and economic comparison were anysised, the use of ammonia-ammonium sulfate method was considered to be more suitable for the boiler flue of Xinghua Chemical factory.In this paper, the desulfurization device's performance was tested and evaluationed, the device undergoned various operating conditions of the test sucessfully, showing that the ammonia desulfurization plant operation is successful, flow rate of FGD is low, and purification efficiency is high. Various changes in working conditions and other characteristics can be accepted widely and robustly.After a year of normal operation, coal prices rose rapidly. In order to ease the pressure of rising costs, we decided to use high sulfur coal (w% = 0.9%) to reduce the cost of steam power. Based on the existing operational data and operating experience through systems analysis and computation research, the necessary equipment and pumps was increased. In order to solve the problems which caused by the use of high-sulfur coal, he whole desulfurization unit for self transformation was upgraded to achieve the purpose of plant capacity and meet the standard of flue gas discharge (GB13223-2011). Through the transformation and upgrading, equipment can maintain the long-term operation and be proved to be upgraded successfully.After the transformation, device operating parameters, economic evaluation and comprehensive energy analysis were analyzed, plant operation shows continuous and stable net flue gas discharge, easing the company's losses, the comprehensive energy consumption per ton of product is within the industry average, Ammonium sulphate can meet the quality standards of accepts goods (GB535-1995).
