Construction of the canal embankment in the desert needs a lot of sandfilling materials such as aeolian,whose engineering property is poor.To solve this problem,the modified of aeolian sand is researched and developed to improve the water retention property and mechanical properties of aeolian sand in this paper.Based on systematic analysis of the engineering properties of aeolian sand,a kind of aeolian sand modifier is developed in the paper.First,the infiltration test,water transfer test,heavy compaction test and direct shear test are carried out with the modifier,a set of optimal formula is selected finally through comparative analysis,and the improvement mechanism is analyzed.The results are as follows:(1)Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and polyacrylamide have little influence on the effect of slow permeation,separate mixing with water glass can effectively reduce the moisture migration,which the effect of the slow permeability and water retention increased with the increase of the concentration of the water.However,the addition of sodium ligninsulfonate can not effectively play the role of water permeability and water retention,water glass and sodium ligninsulfonate can play a good effect,and the optimal ratio of water glass and sodium ligninsulfonate is 10:1.(2)The improvement effect in the maximum dry density of fine sand by adding water glass is poor,while the maximum dry density of sand is improved by the combined effect of of water glass and sodium ligninsulfonate.(3)With the increase of the concentration of water glass,the cohesive force and the internal friction angle of the fine sand increase first and then decrease.The cohesion increases with the increase of curing age.(4)With the incorporation of water glass and the sodium ligninsulfonate ratio being 10:1,fine sand cohesion increases first and then decreases while the internal friction angle decreased first and then increased with the increase of the concentration of water glass and sodium ligninsulfonate content.The cohesion increases with the increases of curing period.(5)Although the maximum dry density with the optimum formula is not changed,the optimum water content range increases.As the age increases,the cohesive strength of the improved aeolian sand decreases and then increases,and the internal friction angle changes little.In the long term,the effect of improving the shear strength of aeolian sand is good.
