Purpose:To collect the medical records of the hospitalized patients in the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN)by Professor Gao Tianshu and use the data extraction method to summarize the drug prescription in the treatment of hyperactivity of fire due to yin deficiency and blood stasis type of DPN paying great importance to the diagnosis and treatment of hyperactivity of fire due to yin deficiency and blood stasis type of DPN.Materials and methods:Data was collected from May 2015 to December 2015 in the Department of Endocrinology,Affiliated Hospital of Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria,Excel 2003 software was used to extract, input data and transform the clinical information into structured data.Descriptive statistics were used to determine the distribution of drug frequency and mean value.SPSS 22.0software was used to compare mean value, exploratory analysis, high frequency of drugs, and clustering methods for drug classification.Results:1.The incidence of DPN was common among elderly group, the proportion of men and women was roughly the same, and there was no significant difference in the age between men and women,no significant difference in the course of disease between men and women with the approximate baseline similarity.2.A total of 100 case history were included for the study with 149 different prescriptions consisting 223 types of herbs.43 kinds of herbs were having frequency> 10% and the first five were fructus ligustri lucidi, radix rehmanniae, rhizoma polygonati odorati, fructus mori and fructus corni.3.The correlation analysis of 26 Chinese herbs with frequency of >14% was carried out,the 137 pairs of herbs were listed having P<0.01.Kernel medicines were 8 pairs.4.The 26 Chinese herbs with frequency of >14% were divided into four clusters.Cluster1: fructus arctii, cortex lycii, folium mori, cortex mori, fructus mume, fructus schisandrae chinesis, fructus mori, rhizoma anemarrhenae, fructus lycii, rhizoma polygonati odorati, fructus corni, fructus ligustri lucidi.Cluster 2: radix rehmanniae, radix scrophulariae.Cluster3: radix paeoniae rubra, radix astragali, flos carthami.Cluster 4: rhizoma coptidis, radix polygalae, fructus amomi, fructus amomi rotundus, red rice, radix scutellariae, rhizoma pinelliae, pericarpium citri reticulatae, radix glycyrrhizae preparata.5.Among four properties of Chinese medicines, cold medicines were use the most, the rest were warm, flat, cool and hot respectively.Among the five flavors of Chinese medicines, the sweet and bitter drugs were used the most followed by the pungent, salty drugs. The sour taste drugs were less used.Owned by the number of herbs from high to low are the liver, lung, stomach, spleen, heart, kidney, large intestine, bladder, gall bladder, small intestine, pericardium, triple burner meridians respectively.6.The two drugs were in the dominant position for the treatment of deficiency of yin, hyperactivity of fire and blood stasis type of DPN followed by blood activating and stasis removing drugs etc. Conclusion:Professor Gao mainly focused on nourishing yin, promoting blood circulation, and removing blood stasis in the treatment of hyperactivity of fire due to yin deficiency and blood stasis type of DPN.The main herbs pair used for the treatment in this type of DPN were fructus ligustri lucidi-rhizoma polygonati odorati, radix rehmanniae-rhizoma anemarrhenae, fructus mori-cortex mori, fructus corni-folium mori, fructus lycii-fructus mume, fructus schisandrae chinesis-cortex lycii, radix glycyrrhizae preparata-fructus arctii, and radix paeoniae rubra-flos carthami.
